Locked Up, They Won’t Let Me out

The first week here hasn’t been too awful, not completely the horrific experience I was expecting, although, something is not completely right about this place, I have so many questions. I’ve been told, well not directly but I overheard the Doctor talking to my parents in his office when they were admitting me, that each week they focus on a different type of therapy, this week was group therapy, soo exciting! I mean don’t get me wrong some of the kids here have real interesting issues and you know have actual issues but it seems for most of us our “issues” are just normal things, a lot of us were brought here for not fitting in, for disagreeing, last time I checked being different and not conforming wasn’t a mental health disorder.

Another thing that disturbs me about this place is that I sometimes see the nurses physically having to carry patients back to their room, the patients too exhausted to even lift their feet, just the other day I was coming out of my room and they were dragging the girl who stays in the room next door by the wrists, she was slumped lifeless on the floor, I believe my horrified expression said it all, the nurse just said she had suffered a psychotic outbreak and become violent which resulted in them having to sedate her. I had spoken to her on my first day here she seemed unlikely to be violent she seemed nice and caring, she had told me that this was her fourth week here and to be careful, that girl seemed miles away to the one I see now, a girl paranoid and afraid to leave her room.

Their reasoning doesn’t fully sit right with me either, a lot of patients who have been here for more than two weeks suffer from “psychotic outbreaks” they never go into details and the patients seem to exhausted or even scared to talk about what happened. It reminds me of another thing I heard the doctor saying to my parents on the first day…

“she’s what we call a psychotic kid, we have to keep control of them.”
